November 24-27, 2011 Thanksgiving weekend with our parents

"No longer forward nor behind
I look in hope or fear;
But, grateful, take the good I find,
The best of now and here."
[John Greenleaf Whittier]

"O Lord, that lends me life,
Lend me a heart replete with thankfulness!"
[William Shakespeare]

Our first Thanksgiving on the boat, and we do have so much for which to be thankful!

On Thursday, Doug and dad began a little project in the v-berth.  We wanted to put cedar planks over the wood up front, but they realized that our miter box didn't have all the angles we needed.  So, that project ended pretty fast.  We'll just have to finish that later.

So, we just decided to relax on the dock...after mom beat me in a few hands of cards.

In our last post, we mentioned that we broke the plastic in the dodger.  Well, we picked that up on Friday, and as always, Amy did a great job!  So, we put that back on the boat and then went motoring around for a little while before Doug's dad and mom (Eddie and Judy) got there that afternoon.

After breakfast on Saturday, we all took a long walk on the beach at the marina.  The weather was amazing!  Then, we started deep frying the turkey and cooking the food!  We had way too much, but it was all good.  Who doesn't love leftovers at Thanksgiving anyway?

Me, Doug, Judy, Eddie, Connie, and Glenn

And after we (or at least me) ate entirely too much, we again sat around and did absolutely nothing.
What a great day!

When we got up on Sunday, we were getting ready for breakfast when Doug asked a pertinent question..."What is that I am smelling?"  After we packed the cars and went to breakfast, we came back to investigate.  Well, we found a hole in the manual waste pump diaphragm, which caused a little mess...so we took it apart, drove to West Marine, and found out that they didn't have the repair kit in stock.  So, we cleaned everything up (including the bilge, because it leaked into there as well) and clogged the hoses.  Not a big deal, we'll fix that when we go back down on the 10th.

We ended a great weekend taking a few pictures around the wharf downtown.
