November 11-13, 2011 - Wrapping the mast and decorating for the holidays

Welcome back!

So, despite Doug's broken bone spur in his foot and both of us being sick, we were able to get alot accomplished this past weekend.  I have to say that it was awesome!  The very first thing on our list?  Creating an expensive cat-scratching post!  We used manilla rope, a secret sailor's knot (like we know one), and velcro, of course.  We will have to finish it later, because we ran out of rope; but, this is how it looks so far...

And after another addition to entice Mizzen for a picture, she seemed to love it...

Next thing on the list...we decided to put up a Christmas tree.  My and Doug's parents are coming for Thanksgiving weekend on the boat, and they know how inconsistent we are with putting up a tree in our house; so, we thought we would surprise them this year.

Thirdly, we bought a new runner for the floor.  At first we decided not to put one down, because Dirk and Nancy (previous owners) did a great job, and we wanted to admire it...but after our fourth or fifth scratch on such a beautiful floor, we decided differently.

Of course, Mizzen was loving it!

On Saturday night, we met with some friends from our old marina, Todd and Gloria, at Dry Street Pub and Pizza for dinner.  It is always nice to see them!  They were doing work on their boat this weekend as well.

We did a few more little things around the boat on Sunday, but, what I failed to mention in the last blog is that we broke out both the port and starboard windows of the dodger during the pirate race a couple of weeks ago.  The genoa sheet whipped around in the high winds and popped them both.  So, we dropped the dodger off at Amy's Canvas and Upholstery (the lady that did our cushions) on the way home today.  The pictures showing the damage didn't turn out all that well, but I will put some of the new dodger on the next post.

So, I just know you are wondering how in the world we were able to accomplish all of this in one weekend.  Yeah, right?   It was because our ominous captain kept threatening us with the plank if we stopped working!  ARRRRGGGGHHH!

This was a great picture...she wouldn't shut up!

Look at those eyes (instead of my very plaid pj's)...she IS very intimidating!  LOL!
